Mr. Chacín graduated from The University of Texas at Austin, where he earned an MBA, and also holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Universidad Simón Bolivar, Caracas, Venezuela.
From 2011 to February 2015, Bernardo was the Citi Country Officer of Citi Guatemala. As CCO in Guatemala, Mr. Chacin was responsible for the franchise, overseeing several legal vehicles, including Citibank N.A. Guatemala Branch, Banco Citibank de Guatemala, S.A. and Cititarjetas de Guatemala, Ltd., among others. Mr. Chacin was directly involved in all the businesses with presence in the country including the Global Consumer Group (GCG), composed of Retail, Cards and Citi Commercial Bank, and the Institutional Client Group (ICG).
Mr. Chacín joined Citigroup in 1993 in Venezuela as a Corporate Finance Officer.
In 1997, he was appointed the Head of the Energy Unit customer segment in Venezuela and later in 2000 took additional responsibilities as head of the Expanded Target Market (ETM) and Asset Based Finance (ABF) units. In 2003 Mr. Chacín was appointed Corporate Bank Head for Citibank Venezuela, a position that he held until his designation as Citigroup’s Country Officer of Citibank Ecuador in 2005. He held this position until 2007, when he returned to Venezuela as CCO of Citibank, N.A., Venezuela Branch and Citibank Aruba, N.V.
Before joining Citigroup, Mr. Chacín worked for over 11 years in Petróleos de Venezuela, S.A. (PDVSA) and its affiliates – Venezuela’s state owned integrated oil company – in areas related to business development and international trading of refined products.
